The Southwest Idaho Area Health Education Center (SW ID AHEC) is part of a nation-wide system of programs created to improve the distribution, diversity, and supply of the primary healthcare workforce, with a special emphasis on meeting the needs of rural and underserved areas. Our projects focus on:

  • Educating youth about careers in health care through our Orientation to Health Careers Program and other outreach strategies
  • Enhancing health profession student education through the AHEC Scholar Program
  • Continuing Education for Health Care Professionals

SW ID AHEC is a program of Jannus, Inc., a multi-service non-profit organization located in Boise.

Idaho Public Health Districts

 

Southwest Idaho AHEC serves 10 counties in the southwestern part of the state. Our boundaries are based on Idaho Public Health Districts 3 and 4 and are reflected in the rust colored portion of our logo. 

The two other Idaho AHECs, Southeast and Northern, are reflected in the teal portions of our logo.

Together, Idaho AHECs collaborate to improve health care access and health professional retention across the state.

In this report, Idaho’s AHECs collectively provide examples of how we worked diligently in the past year to recruit and retain health professionals in the places they are needed most…we look forward to the coming year, where we can continue to support Idaho’s public health and healthcare systems, champion our healthcare workforce, and support programs that bring about health equity.
