Summer Health Sciences Course Offers Diversity Scholarships
This is a great opportunity!
Schools of medicine, dentistry and public health at the University of Washington will jointly pilot a program next summer to prepare talented students of color for careers in the health sciences. Students who will be college freshman and sophomores next fall may apply between Nov. 1, 2016, and March 1, 2017. The program will take place from June 18 to July 29, 2017. Funding covers 80 students’ costs for travel to Seattle, on-campus room and board, and a small stipend.
The six-week curriculum involves the basic foundational sciences (biology, chemistry, organic chemistry and physics) as well as statistics. The curriculum is also designed to build on the students’ knowledge of the social determinants of health and health disparities through the lenses of social justice and service learning.
The program also offers clinical shadowing and simulation experiences to give students a sense of the breadth of healthcare services provided at UW and in the community. Click here for more info.
