There are lots of ways to learn about careers in healthcare. Here are a few:
Orientation to Health Careers or OHC is an Idaho AHEC program that provides education and outreach to middle- and high-school students in rural or medically underserved areas in Idaho. OHCs are usually hosted by a hospital or clinic in coordination with middle-school and high-school principals or teachers. Best of all OHC is FUN!! OHC students get to have conversations with health professionals like doctors, physician assistants, dentists, and others who are working in a health career. Hospital and clinic tours, plus exciting hands-on activities are also part of the program. Ask your Health Science teacher or principal to email Katrina Hoff at (208) email@example.com for information on how your school can participate.
Explore Health Careers is a free, multi-disciplinary, interactive health careers website that gives students (and educators) a reliable, comprehensive source of accurate, up-to-date information about the health professions, including health-related education/training programs, financial aid resources, and current issues in healthcare.
The Occupational Outlook Handbook, from the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, describes over 47 different health-related careers.
Healthcare Education Pathways PDF is a document, created by Idaho AHEC Intern, Leah Hipwell, that contains many of the different healthcare pathways that you can take in Idaho. This document lists where you can get this education, the cost of the education, admission deadlines, how much you can make in this career, and other needed information if you are interested in that college or university.
