Supporting Idaho’s Healthcare Professionals

SW Idaho AHEC is dedicated to supporting Idaho’s healthcare professionals in a variety of ways. We provide opportunities to learn and connect via our Facebook Page, Instagram, and Twitter, and keep our subscribers updated on news from our partners via Frontier Footnotes, a statewide quarterly newsletter. We also partner to provide continuing education opportunities and work to connect healthcare professionals with communities.

SW ID AHEC offers continuing education training for physicians and other providers with a focus on training needs for providers serving rural and underserved populations. We also seek to partner with other organizations to deliver a variety of CE trainings on important topics, including:

  • Social Determinants of Health
  • Cultural Humility
  • Practice Transformation

Precept a WWAMI RUOP Student Program: The Rural Underserved Opportunities Program (RUOP) is a four-week, elective immersion experience in community medicine for students between their first and second years of medical school.

STATE PROGRAMS

Idaho State Loan Repayment Program (SLRP)

The State Loan Repayment Program (SLRP) is a multi-discipline, state-based loan repayment program for practitioners working for a nonprofit or public entity located in a federally-designated Health Professional Shortage Area. Loan repayment is provided through a federal grant and every award must be matched $1:$1 with funds provided by the practitioner’s employer. Awards range from $5,000-$25,000 per year for two years.

NATIONAL PROGRAMS

National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Loan Repayment Program 

Through the National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program, medical, dental and behavior health clinicians can get loan repayment as they work at a NHSC site in a high need area. You can receive up to $50,000 to repay loans in exchange for a two year commitment.

The Idaho Academy of Family Physicians is committed to quality health care, education, and advocacy on behalf of Idaho’s family physicians and their patients.

Idaho Dental Association

Idaho Commission on Aging 
ICA’s mission is to improve quality of life for all older Idahoans, vulnerable adults, and their families through education, advocacy, accountability and service; to provide opportunity for all to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives within communities of their choice.

Idaho Hospital Association
Founded in 1933, the Idaho Hospital Association is a statewide, nonprofit trade association that brings hospital/health care leaders together to identify issues of mutual concern and to address these issues in a responsible manner that ensures quality health care for those we serve throughout Idaho.

Idaho Medical Association 
A leading advocate for the practicing physician and for improving the quality of Idaho’s health care. For more than a century, the Idaho Medical Association has supported and served the medical community and fostered high quality care for all Idahoans through its leadership in legislation, medical education, and public health.

Idaho Primary Care Association 
Operates a cooperative statewide network, representing ten Community Health Center members and three supporting members.

Idaho Public Health Association 
Provides a forum for individuals and organizations to work collectively in order to assure conditions in which Idahoans will be healthy.

Idaho Rural Health Association
The Mission of the Idaho Rural Health Association is to provide leadership on issues related to rural health in Idaho through advocacy, communication, and education.

SPAN Idaho
Suicide Prevention Action Network of Idaho provides leadership, survivor support groups and education throughout the state.
